The drawing was a place to sit. The patio has a circular feature for a table, curved paths, stepping stones through the lawn, and a raised bed behind a brick wall.
The earlier photograph is lawn, a pile of timber and a house still waiting on its garden. The later one has the circle of paving in, ivy left on the side wall, and pots brought up to the doors.
