What to have ready before the first visit

The short list Jake needs before a first look at a Hertfordshire garden: town, access, what is failing, and how the plot is actually used.

Mown grass and trees on a maintained Hertfordshire grounds.

The useful first call is short. Town, what is wrong, and whether you think it is a design, a drive, a tree or a tidy. The address is The Garden Centre, Birchall Lane, Hertford, and the two numbers are 01992 414 536 and 078 6224 5534.

You do not need a drawing. You do need an honest account of the hours the garden will get, because that decides more than the square metres.

Worth knowing before someone stands in the garden

None of this has to be formal. A few sentences is enough.

  • The town, and whether there is a side gate a machine might use
  • What you want to keep: a vegetable patch, a tree, a view of the field
  • What has failed: the drive, the lawn, the light, the hedge
  • Whether the job might move onto a regular visit once it is built
  • Any sense that a tree is protected, even if you are not sure

Commercial and public sites — hotels, offices, schools, colleges, housing — can use the same opening. The difference is who signs the visit off, and whether the list is grass only or the longer grounds round.

Email info@hertslandscapes.com if a phone call is awkward. A reply is sent when one is needed.
